This is Timothy Ryan...Snowflake #366.  Yep, you read it right...Snowflake #366.  Timothy was a frozen embryo.  There are over 600.000 frozen embryos in the U.S. "left over from in-vitro fertilization attempts".  When I first saw Timothy's picture on Life's Choices Pregnancy Center's Facebook page I had to learn more.   Their Facebook page explained that an organization called Nightlight Christian Adoptions had pioneered a program for frozen embryo donation and adoption. It is called Snowflakes® Frozen Embryo Adoption Program.  I found their site and was amazed.  The Snowflakes Program makes it possible for people to adopt embryos from couples who have completed in-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments and have remaining embryos.  These "left overs" are stored in fertility clinics throughout the U.S. and "are waiting for a loving home".   Many couples who have successfully given birth after IVF question what to do with remaining embryos.  Nightlight Christian Adoptions has an answer.

  1. Awww...he is so extremely adorable! This is amazing Toni. I had no idea such programs existed. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Wow, I had never even thought about there being embryos that are "in waiting"...that is very disturbing to me, but I am so grateful that someone came up with an answer! I am interested in learning more about what this group does...I wish they could get more visibility, as I know there are couples out there wanting to adopt and on waiting lists. This could be a wonderful option for them.

    1. was disturbing to me as well. It never occurred to me that couples who try IVF actually have more than one embryo created. I found Nightlight Christian Adoptions through Facebook, hopefully they are getting more visibility that way.
