Practical Homemaking
These brownies are called, quite literally, "Delicious Brownies". And rightly so, for they really are delicious! My grandma has recently come to stay with us over the summer and so I stole this recipe from her. Originally made to be glutenous, but easily substituted for gluten-free flours. Also, easily made to be dairy-free. If you like moist and chewy...you will love these.
Original Recipe:
1/2 C. Butter (Softened, or melted if necessary)
1 C. Sugar
1 Tsp. Vanilla A Delicious Brownie
2 Eggs
1/3 C. Cocoa
1/2 C. Flour
1/2 C. Chopped nuts (Optional)
Bake @ 325 degrees, for approximately 30 minutes. Makes about a 9" pan.
Nay's Tidbits:
When I added the cocoa to this recipe, I used half dark dutch cocoa and half light. It made them extra rich, for those who love darker chocolate desserts. To substitute to gluten-free, I used mostly white rice flour, a little bit of brown rice flour, and tapioca starch. Also, make sure to add approximately 1/2 tsp. of Xanthum Gum per 1/2 C. flour. This makes them hold together well.
The original recipe also has a chocolate frosting on the top. Which, is a little bit of a throw together recipe. And while the frosting also tastes quite good, my personal favorite, was a Delicious Brownie with a side of vanilla ice cream, garnished with a fresh raspberry sauce. Quite "delicious" indeed!
Frosting:
2-21/2 C. Powdered sugar
Little bit of Vanilla
3 to 4 Tbs. Cocoa
App. 4 Tbs. of Milk
App. 1/4 C. Butter
Looks YUM Nay! Now you just need to make it flour-free, egg-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, nut-free version for me. :D
